2018 Ford Expedition, Coming This Fall, Gets More Towing Power Than Ever

It's been a long time since the Ford Expedition got a full model redesign. A long time. It began its current generation in 2007, and though yearly updates have kept it more-or-less current, its platform was aging.

Later this year, that all changes when the 2018 Expedition makes its debut.

From the outside, not much seems different. It still has that classic, full-size SUV look. It's still massive enough to seat eight passengers—in fact it has grown by a few inches in length and wheelbase. But scratch the surface, and some big things are happening.

For starters, the 2018 Expedition sheds 300 pounds from the previous generation, despite growing in size. It's the same magic trick Ford pulled with the F-150—aluminum alloy body panels.

It can also tow more than ever, up to 9,300 pounds, and makes it easier for drivers to manage large trailers with the Pro Trailer Backup Assist feature.
